With training and the league in the not so distant future, it is important to look ahead to ‘new normal’ of hockey.
Daniel Peachey has been appointed as our Covid Officer. He is currently putting a document together for club members which will explain all as well as a risk assessment and map of the pitch. Please see here for details provided by England Hockey on returning to Hockey.

Matt Dawson – SGHC Mens 1s ones are hungry for promotion having marginally missed out on just desserts last year. Goal scoring has rarely been a problem having netted five goals or more in seven of the matches and not once failing to convert. There are slim margins in this league however and missing out on all three points on only three occasions leaves the side in third place. Remarkably we have travelled to play each of the sides in the top half of table and so we will need to create a Bradley Stoke centre of excellence in the new year to earn any celebrations.
Sarah West – The Ladies 1s are proud to say that they have finished the first half of the season undefeated after a well deserved promotion last season. With 6 wins and 3 draws under their belts, the ladies look forward to fighting hard in 2020 aiming to finish towards the top half of the table! Continuing to work as a team and push to the very last second of each game, the ladies are keen to increase their goal difference in the second half of the season.
Mike Payne – The Mens 2s have had a solid first half of the season as league new boys after promotion last year. At the halfway point we are sitting pretty in 5th place, comfortably mid table. After starting the season with a large squad, we have established a strong core which has bred results along with a consistent good level of hockey. We have proved we are more than a match for the teams in this league and look forward to attacking 2020 with positivity and enthusiasm as ever.
Leanne Peachey – The ladies 2s started the season with a plan to finish in the top 2 and be promoted at the end of the season. With this in mind a strong start was crucial to our success. I’m not sure any of us dreamt of the start we actually had. As a team we have scored 59 goals and only conceded 7. We have won 6 and lost only 1 game of the 7 we have played. We have worked very hard on playing simple hockey well and with confidence. Many players in the team have become more confident and more skilled as the first half of the season progressed. We look forward to 2020 with a target of 7 out of 7 wins!
Tim Jenkinson – Overall we have won 6 and drawn 1 of our 11 fixtures (19 points) and have a positive goal difference – the best half season on record for the 3s.
The 3s started the season hoping to build on a good end to last season but having moved into a brand new league we were not sure how we would measure up against new opposition. A weak preseason with limited player availability meant we were well beaten in our two friendlies making me a slightly nervous captain. Suddenly, when the league games started, the 2s and 3s had lots of players available for home games, although we have had a few away games where resources have been more limited. The main issue in games has therefore been managing subs effectively and a constantly changing squad that has caused some slightly inconsistent performances. Overall we have been very pleased with our performances and have been competitive in almost all games. All players have made great contributions but key highlights so far have been James Roy with some immense defensive displays and Jake Watling (new to the club) as our top scorer.
We are looking forward to the second half of the season where we will target to at least match the first half and hopefully manage to finish 4th!
