As both sides awaited the tardy Gogarty to bring Red shirted cohort up to the full allowance of eleven the team discussed that a victory against the already crowned champions would be vindicating, particularly as they fielded a team 16 deep of fleet footed students.
South Glos were in the ascension early on pressing deep into opposition territory with cutting attacks. Gilbert and Spink were constant dangers in the wide areas with the two tangoing around defenders and driving to goal. One such attack took Spink towards the baseline before teeing the ball up for Dawson to dip ahead of his marker and dink it passed the keeper into the net. The lead was compounded when a short corner shot was miss hit sufficiently to wrong foot the keeper and allow Spink to tap home from close range. Despite the unsightliness of the second the team went into half time deservedly ahead having controlled to that point.
